Historic Preservation

Among our historic preservation projects are significant buildings from three centuries of American architecture:  McDowell Hall, built in 1744 at St. John's College; the Frederick Douglass Summer Home, built by his son in 1895; and Paul Mellon Hall, designed by Richard Neutra in 1959.

Annapolis Historic Preservation Commission
Bohl Architects
has successfully represented clients in front of the Annapolis Historic Preservation Commission to achieve designs that not only satisfy the clients' goals and desires, but also receive the approval of the Commission and community groups.

For 7 State Circle, a commercial project fronting Main Street and State Circle replacing buildings destroyed by fire, Bohl Architects successfully worked with the Commission and community groups to create a design that is highly praised by all. The design received unanimous approval from the Annapolis Historic Preservation Commission. Bohl Architects did extensive research in the preparation of the report presented at the Commission meeting; it explains the design in context with the existing architecture of Annapolis and presents an extensive review of Annapolis' historic architecture.
